Spiral wound gaskets are manufactured by spirally winding a preformed metal strip (V-shaped) and a strip of non-metallic filler material.
The metal strip holds the filler, resulting in excellent mechanical resistance, resilience and recovery.
Depending on type of the flanges, spiral wound gaskets can be reinforced either with an outer centering ring which controls the compression and holds the gaskets centrally within the bolt circle, or with an inner guide ring which increases axial resilience of the gasket and acts like a protecting shield against high temperatures.
Application
- petrochemical, shipbuilding, food processing industries, power and nuclear stations, marine and hydraulic plants
- steam, gases, oil, alkalines, liquids, acids, various organic mediums and solvents.
Shape, size and construction
Spiral wound gaskets are usually of circular shape but they may be produced in several shapes such as: oval, rectangular etc.
Our production program comprises spiral wound gaskets with various sizes ranging from ND 10 to ND 4000 and a nominal thickness of 3.2, 4.5, 6.5 and 7.2mm.
Standard materials.
Outer (centering) ring :
- made in carbon steel with corrosive protection
Filler material :
- flexible graphite 98%
- flexible graphite 99.8%
- PTFE
Inner ring :
- Normally made of the same material as the gasket metallic strip - steel 321, 304, 316L acc. to ANSI - steel 1.4301, 1.4541, 1.4571, 1.4404 acc. to DIN
Metallic strip :
- Thickness ranging from 0.18 mm up to 0.22 mm - Steel 321, 304, 316L ANSI - Steel 1.4301. 1.4541, 1.4571, 1.4404 DIN
Standard spiral wound gaskets
- They are spiral wound gaskets without inner or outer ring. They are manufactured by spirally winding a V-shaped metal strip and a strip of non-metallic filler material. This profile is used for male/female and tongue groove flanges.
Spiral wound gaskets with guide outer ring
- They are standard spiral wound gaskets consisting of combination between a sealing filler and a V-wound metal strip in combination, fitted with an outer centering ring. This profile is used to raised face flanges .
Spiral wound gaskets with inner ring
- They are spiral wound gaskets with inner ring to increase axial resilience of gasket. They are used for male and female profiles.
Spiral wound gaskets with inner and outer ring
- This complex profile is used for raised flanges.
